Obscurify: My Newest Obsession

Personally, of all of the music streaming services, Spotify bows to no other, and I think many would agree with me. Their Daily Mixes, Daily Drives, Daily Wellness, and their yearly recap playlists never leave me wanting more. But what truly sets Spotify completely above the rest is not it’s smooth and easy format or the manageable prices for premium (especially for college students). It is the additional applications associated with the streaming service that tips it over. My favorite of the additional programs is Obscurify.

Obscurify is a secure online platform that works in tandem with Spotify, using their Web API, to tell you everything you need to know about your music taste.

How to use Obscurify:

· Go to Obscurify’s website: https://obscurifymusic.com/login

· Log into your Spotify account

· And scroll to find your top genres, artists, songs, and more

Obscurify offers:

· an obscurity rating against other users, any country, and globally

· your current top ten genres

· your current top songs and artists

· your all-time top songs and artists

· any top songs and artists from previous times you’ve checked

· analysis of your music taste (including happiness, danceability, energy, acousticness)

· music recommendations

Obscurify even helps you to make a 15 song playlist from the recommendations it gives at the bottom of the profile, with a single click.

I am obsessed with checking my Obscurify ratings. I love looking back at the saved history of my top artists and songs. I, personally, believe you can tell a lot about a person, and how they are doing, by looking at the music they are listening to.

Obscurify can be helpful for artists as well. Obscurify uses Spotify to keep track of the artist’s global ratings, in addition to more localized ratings, so artists can have another tool to keep track of their listening base.

The only issue I have with the platform is the lack of being able to share your results or look at your friends’ results. My friends and I love looking into each other’s Spotifys for music recommendations and to steal each other’s playlists. I would love to see what they are listening to most (and see if there is anything I recommended in their top songs).

Spotify, with their multitudes of daily personalized playlists, and the genius music recommendations, has just given us yet another gift to get further emerged in music—which for music enthusiasts like me is incredible.
